The Last Quarter of the Year
Written by Thomas Bell

The 4th quarter is the last part of the year. If the students got good enough grades and if they can move up a grade if they got the credits they needed. Freshman need 5 credits to be sophomores, the sophomores need 11 credits to be juniors, the juniors need 17 credits to be seniors, the seniors need 23, and need to get a certain amount of credits in certain subjects to graduate.

Some of the students passed maybe half or most of their classes. Those students thought they could have done better in those classes they didn’t pass in the 3rd quarter. Most students need to get really good grades in order to get the credit they need to pass the subjects they’ve failed or got a low grade in. Some of the students will stay after school this quarter and get their work done. They are also going to make sure they turn in their work in on time.

One of the students plan to start his/her homework right when his/her gets home.
Kystal said, “I go to the teachers place to do work.”
Or they might do their work at night since there’s nothing to really do here in Angoon.

Most students usually do their homework in their rooms. There is also after school in Mrs. Cullum’s room and their room for doing their homework. Mrs. Cullum stays after school everyday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at night.

A couple of students think they will hopefully do better next year. Also hopefully make it to the next grade. It may also depend on how they work next year.
Devonne said, “If I make get good grades this quarter I can move to the next grade.”

FAT Food…Not Food Fast
Written by Devonne Elsie

Some people like to eat at some places like McDonalds, Pete’s Oriental, Subway, and lots of other places. But the main focus is on McDonalds because that seems to be everyone’s favorite place to go while they are in Juneau. Everyone knows McDonalds isn’t good for them but they all have their reasons for why they like it. It could have been the first fast food restraunt they’ve been to or they just like it because it’s a place to go if you don’t know how to cook.

With over 80 million chicken nuggets being consumed a year, the average teens consume eight to ten pieces, which alone are 250-420 calories. Now if you were to eat a meal, the McNuggets (250-420), a large size fries (570), a medium size soda (210), plus the sauces (45) you want to use while you are eating your McNuggets or the ketchup (10) you use with your French fries (The calories from the sauce or ketchup depends on how much you use) is 1,255 calories being swallowed. Then there are those that like to gorge on the 560 calorie Big Mac. For a meal you would have the Big Mac (560), large French fries (570), medium soda (210), and again with the ketchup (10) or sauces (45) you like to eat with your fries all add up to 1395 calories. (None of this includes the free refills on soda or juice you get with your meal, so you would have to double your calories on each refill you get.)

To lose some of the calories from the meal you just stuffed yourself with you would have to do one of the following activities for 10 minutes: either running (about a mile) to lose 109 to 174 calories, walking (44-70), sleeping (10-16) or walk up one flight of stairs (150-229).
“When you’re really, really hungry McDonalds is good, but I just like it sometimes,” Donella said.

People usually eat at McDonalds every chance they get. To actually think about it, how many of you actually exercise to keep your weight down? Not very many, McDonalds is the largest leading chain of fast food restaurants that causes America’s obesity, with most of them being children and teens.

Why is McDonalds so addicting, we don’t know.
“They probably put some type of drug in it,” Kystal jokes.
Well, everyone knows that it’s not good for them and “When you can’t have it, you want it even more,” Ms. Cox said.

In 2001 over one third of kids and teens were overweight. It seems like McDonalds really affects the children and teens causing them to be obese. Obesity is not healthy for anyone it can cause high blood pressure, a precursor to liver disease, being heavy can cause fatty liver and the chances of them getting Type 2 diabetes.

There is the saying, “You are what you eat.” This is so true, most of the food that you are putting into your body is grease, and grease is fat! All the grease that you eat clogs up your intestines and what isn’t digested turns to fat (that’s how you gain weight!).

[AY…what????
Written by: Aaron Kearns

There are a few acronyms that schools have become very familiar with in the last five years. One of them is NCLB, or the No Child Left Behind act, instituted in 2001 by President Bush as a proposed solution for nation wide academic inadequacy. Along with the NCLB act there is AYP, or Adequate Yearly Progress for schools based primarily on HGQE testing. Because of AYP we have the HGQE (or high school graduation qualifying exam) which all sophomores and other students who haven’t passed who are in higher grades than sophomore in this school are required to take, considering the tests are the easiest of all high school exams you shouldn’t be taking them after your sophomore year. According to some, however, the high school qualifying exams may not be the best way to conduct the affair. “In fact” says Mr. Parkin, “I would rather use the GED program than the HGQE.”

Fifth year AYP as some people have called it is actually the fifth stage or fifth level of five possible levels of consequences that come from failing to meet the required standard for AYP whether it is because the students didn’t do well enough on their HGQE tests or they simply didn’t show up for the week of the testing, which is determined by the Alaska Department of Education. The consequence for not meeting the AYP standards for the fifth year in a row as adopted by the Alaska State Board of Education, August 8, 2003, states, “Restructuring: continue to implement school plan, continue to provide school choice and supplemental services, inform parents. District required to prepare a restructuring plan to take one of the following actions if the school remains in restructuring status the following year: reopen school as a public charter school, replace all or most of the staff, enter into a contract with a management company, turn over operation of the school to the state.”

This may or may not be the case with our school. The whole point of the consequences for not meeting AYP requirements is to identify the problem, which there may be many of them, and take care of them to try and work towards making Adequate Yearly Progress the next year.

Horoscopes

Aries March 21 - April 19
An uncanny ability to tell what others are thinking gives you a sixth sense when it comes to romance at the beginning of the week. Anticipate their next move and impress them with yours. Around Wednesday, go ahead and take the lead -- self-confidence is darn sexy, especially on you. You're in a more receptive mood on Thursday and Friday, and the way you're listening makes someone want to reveal a lot. Hot! You'll have your message of love ready to deliver this weekend -- and it's likely to be very well received.

Taurus April 20 - May 20
Your understanding and acceptance is priceless to someone at the beginning of the week -- perhaps a friend, a lover or even yourself. Loyalty's one of your finest qualities, and it's worth its weight in gold now. An active approach to your love life is indicated around Wednesday. Singles should pepper some online romantic prospects with flirty messages, while the coupled up take the next step. Thursday and Friday, all systems are go; make a date or hit the dance floor with friends. The rest of the weekend, try saying the first thing that comes to mind -- it'll be exciting!

Gemini May 21 - June 21
Eager for romantic excitement this week? On Monday and Tuesday, it's more about understanding your current state of affairs -- so they can evolve. Around Wednesday, the time will be right to make a move, and you'll be able to spot it straight away. Hesitation isn't your style, particularly now. Thursday and Friday are fertile for cultivating matters of the heart that are already under way -- plenty of healthy growth can occur under your loving care. As for the weekend, it's all about you, and it looks fabulous. If you choose to put the emphasis on romance, well, look out, world!

Cancer June 22 - July 22
Nesting and recharging your heart's batteries is where you'll want to be at the beginning of the week, maybe with a close friend who accepts you just the way you are. Those who know you as a cautious player in the game of romance could be surprised around Wednesday, though, as you're taking a bold and applause-worthy step. On Thursday or Friday, you deserve some TLC -- if you're coupled up, express your needs, and if not, book that massage or block out a night just for relaxing. And whatever it is you're feeling this weekend, out with it.

Leo July 23 - August 22
You're getting along exceptionally well with others at the week's outset, and maybe one other in particular. Don't be shy with a compliment. Thinking things through may not be your strong suit around Wednesday, but when it comes to love, sometimes just taking action is better than any plan. Be impulsive -- why not? Turning a great idea into even greater reality is oddly easy on Thursday or Friday, so plan a fabulous party, date or whatever you've got up your sleeve. This weekend, a creative form of communication gets you noticed -- singing, maybe, or skywriting.

Virgo August 23 - September 22
First impressions aren't especially accurate at the beginning of the week, so don't rush to judge. Someone who seems odd could be oddly right for you or a friend. You may be impatient with talk (or email exchanges) around Wednesday; if you're eager, go ahead and push it to the action stage. On Thursday and Friday, you've got support to give, and someone -- a friend, a significant other -- could really use it. This is the true meaning of love. It's all about connections this weekend; singles can make intriguing new ones, while the ties that bind the coupled up get closer than ever.

Libra September 23 - October 22
Doing something selfless for another at the beginning of the week shows the universe that your heart's in the right place -- and it feels good, too. Then when you see an opportunity to make your own romantic move around Wednesday, the stars align as if by magic to help you along. Could it be karma? You're downright magnetic on Thursday and Friday, and those who are drawn close to you are then even more intrigued. Share of yourself, and ask questions of them. This weekend, new sights, tastes, sounds and feelings jump-start your heart, so why stick to your routine?

Scorpio October 23 - November 21
It's tough to be patient when it comes to love, but waiting for the right thing -- or for the right thing to develop further on its own -- is key at the beginning of the week. Whatever you're dying to say or do, let it wait until around Wednesday, when being proactive can get you where you want to be. Then, on Thursday or Friday, it's your response that counts -- tune in so you don't miss the big romantic question. Lines of communication should be kept wide open this weekend -- the better for learning more, resolving differences or flirting outrageously.

Sagittarius November 22 - December 21
Good things take time, and while you can appreciate this intellectually at the beginning of the week, your heart may be getting rather impatient. Wait until around Wednesday, when romance really takes off, with you joyously along for the ride. By the end of the workweek, it's back down to earth, and you'll especially want to attend to little details when it comes to love -- like where and when you're supposed to meet a certain someone. Be on time -- it may matter more to them than it does to you! This weekend, there's a lot going on in your heart, so find someone to confide in.

Capricorn December 22 - January 19
Helping someone else out with a matter of the heart is not only the right thing to do at the beginning of the week, it can give you an important insight into your own situation. Think it over until around Wednesday, when the way to assert yourself -- and your hopes, dreams, desires -- becomes clear. The end of the workweek looks busy, but don't fail to respond to a sweet overture. Showing the universe and one particular occupant that you care is important now. This weekend, you may be making your own overture, and it's bound to come across beautifully.

Aquarius January 20 - February 18
Compassion is the form of love that's in the stars at the week's outset, and while it may not be as thrilling as romance, it's every bit as important. Demonstrate yours and the universe will thank you. Around Wednesday, dispense with formalities and blurt out what's in your heart -- as a result, you'll advance in romance. Things may seem low-key at the end of the workweek, but there's a little something funny -- and possibly sweet -- going on. Find it for fun. The weekend, on the other hand, is flat-out made for sizzling romance. Plan accordingly!

Pisces February 19 - March 20
The energy of the stars is all yours at the beginning of the week, and if you choose to channel it into romantic matters, you're pretty much unstoppable. A major transformation could be at hand! Don't expect love to be crystal clear around Wednesday; it's more like a moving fog, lovely to be enveloped in but a bit disorienting. You're back on terra firma at the end of the workweek, and Thursday and Friday are great for dates. Take your significant other, a prospective one or a friend out and show 'em the time of their life. Keep plans loose this weekend; you may just want to nest.

Track and field
Written by Thomas Bell

Track and field has some events of the same as the Olympics. We do certain events that the Olympics do. We do the sprinting, jumping and a couple of throwing events such as or like shot put and discus. Track and field starts after the basketball season is over.

The student athletes like the sport because of the work outs they do or because they like to throw heavy things.

It also "Keeps the students out of trouble.¨ said Marcus.

Some of the student athletes are doing two events, mainly sprinting and jumping. Only Jennifer Parkin is doing the shot put and the discus. Most of the boys are doing the sprints and jumping. There are several distant runners, couple of them are junior high girls, some high school boys and one high school girl.

Aaron said "he was pretty at jumping last year.¨

He was basically the only one on this years team that joined last year since Angoon didn't have this sport because there wasn't a coach.

The athletes like the practices so far because its fun and it's similar to the basketball practice. The practice was easy for them the first practice then it got hard afterwards. They do sprints everyday and they go into the weight room after they do sprints and work out there legs one day and then do arms the other day. They do 3 sets of 3 to 5 reps of there max weight they can lift.

Most of the students joined because they like the sport and to benefit them for other sports also like basketball next year.

Hopefully most of them make state for the events that they are doing. They are going to work their butt off to try to place first for the events that they are doing. The first meet is in Juneau right after spring break, which is on April 28th and 29th. If you see them wish them good luck in the future.

To pass or not to pass
Written by Aaron Kearns

At the end of each school year students will either pass on to the next grade or they will have to make up another year in place of the one they just failed. Fortunately students have to work pretty hard to fail an entire year and retake a grade level they have already taken. In order to fail, students must receive too little credit to move on, which translates to failing too many classes.

Mr. Parkin said, “The primary reason students fail is because they are not there.” Whether it is because they are not physically present or because they are not mentally present, either way they are not there. Those who do their work generally share one common trait or quality, and that is motivation. In fact, motivation is present whenever work is done; there is always a motivator.

Graduation is a very real motivator along with many other activities that require getting a good grade. Students “don’t understand that [by failing a grade] they will be stuck in the same grade and their graduation will be postponed,” John Boy said. Any hopes of graduating could very well be forfeited because of the failed grade.

People put themselves in this position because “they’re not getting their work done and they are too lazy,” Thomas said. Mr. Kearns agrees, he said, “Those who have learned self discipline know what it takes [and those who don’t]… are flipping lazy, that’s the only thing I can think of.”

Those who don’t graduate because they have failed too many grades are in for a real treat. In order to understand they only need to look around town.

They may “work at whalers for the rest of their lives,” Jennifer said, or “they’ll become walkers, like others that walk around town, looking for something to make them happy,” Mr. Kearns said.

Of course there is always the opportunity to get a GED and earn a diploma that way, and potentially get a good job, but the odds are not in your favor. Take a lesson from the wise, even if you can’t see the end keep trying hard it will be in sight soon enough.

Just Can’t Wait!
Written By: Nicole Isturis

Spring Fling is coming up and everyone can’t wait! Spring Fling is going to be taking place at Echo Ranch in Juneau from April 24th-28th. It’s never been there before so no one has a clue what it’s going to be like. More than half 9th-12th graders are going and all are expecting to have a good time. There are a lot of people that have made friends in the previous years and can’t wait to see them. One of the main purposes this is going on is because of leadership. People have to start taking a stand for what they want, as long as it doesn’t include violence or something horrible. Another reason is to bring the people in our districts together to have some fun.

It started off with only a couple people wanting to go, but when someone told someone else the list got bigger and bigger. People said they wanted to go just because everyone else was going. It’s a time to relax and experience things you’ve never done before, but in a fun way. It’s also an opportunity to get out of Angoon, go out and do something besides lay around and watch T.V. Everyone is hoping that it’s going to be like the previous years, but try to have more fun this time. Different people might be able to go too that no one’s met so we’re all hoping to meet new friends.

One of the popular events that might be happening this year is the night time activities. For example, people can’t wait to actually learn about the stars in astronomy. Also, another really cool game is hide-n-seek in the dark. It’s going to be so much fun that everyone is not going to want to come back. A lot of people haven’t gone there before, but by the way it sounds, nobody cares. All everyone wants to do is go have some fun with new and different people. It’s always good to learn from different people too.

The reason Echo Ranch was picked was because it’s bigger. Spring Fling hasn’t been in all the places in our district, but hopefully we can make it to each town sometime. The good thing about having a bigger place is we have room for more people. If we had it anywhere besides Echo Ranch, there would most likely be a limit for the amount of people coming. It’s a good thing they are having it there because it’s going to be like a real fun school trip!

Most people want to go so they can experience new things.

Kara James said, “I want to go to experiment and try things I’ve never done before.”

“I want to go to see my old friends and meet new before I leave to college since this is my last year,” said, Kystal Gonzalez.

We all want to do something new and exciting in our lives and this is the perfect opportunity to do that.

Grow Up and Stop Ruining Things!
Written by: Nicole Isturis

Vandalism is a really big problem here in our own school. People are ruining chairs, desks, leaving trash around and just not caring about what they do. No one knows how to stop it and we don’t even know who’s doing it most of the time. People need to take responsibility in what they do and realize what they’re doing is not good. It makes our school look bad and not only is it happening in our school, it happens outside of school. It also makes our town look bad. Visitors probably look at how we live and wonder what the heck we’re thinking. Doing it for fun isn’t always a good thing and people can and should get punished for their own mistakes.

Most think people vandalize property because they want to look cool. Newsflash, it isn’t cool to ruin something that isn’t yours. You really wouldn’t like it if someone trashed or ruined your property somehow. People should really think about what they’re doing before they do it. Don’t do it to make your friends happy because maybe in the long run, someone might find out and they’ll turn their back on you so they won’t get in trouble. You never know who to trust at first so if someone is forcing you to do it, it’s not going to look so pretty.

There are people that do things on purpose to ruin stuff, but it’s for different reasons. They do it because they’re mad, sad, or just bored.

Like Mollie, “I broke my sister’s stereo with a hammer because she took my new pants and wouldn’t give them back.”

It isn’t a good thing to vandalize things whether you’re happy or mad though. You’re just throwing away someone else’s money that they had to pay to get what you’re trying to ruin.
We can’t stop it, but we can do something about it if we see it happening. If you see it happen, try to do something about it to stop them and tell them how dumb and idiotic it is.

Kara James said, “If I seen someone vandalizing something I would tell them that they shouldn’t be doing it because it’s not yours.”

The only way we can lesson vandalism is if we actually try to stop it if we see it. Also, it’s not a bad thing to tell on someone who does it either.

“It’s something people shouldn’t do and if we didn’t tell, they would most likely think it’s okay and keep doing it over and over again,” said, Mollie George

Main point here is that vandalizing any kind of property is not right and people shouldn’t do it at all because it’s childish and foolish.

!Why Not Judge By Just Personalities!
Written by: LeAnne Gara

People that dress all wacky (wearing their pajamas, shorts and sweats to school) always judge people by their clothes. Maybe because they’re just jealous, can’t fit into their own clothes or plain out just hating. They’re possibly jealous because they don’t have the money to have the clothes that others get, since others actually care and come to school dressed good and matching. They might also just hate on others because those people don’t have enough money to wear what others wearing, the so called “in” clothes and instead wear the same clothes that they had since junior high or longer. See everyone hates on everyone, because they don’t have what others have.

If there is such a thing as “in” clothes, what are they? Does anyone know?

Well, no one really knows, but someone said, “Rich people are the ones who pick out what’s hot.”

Well, if you watch television you would see that Angoon does not wear the clothes that the rich people or the hot models wear. So what are the “in” clothes? Well, nobody truly knows. So just because you have all these tight clothes by like South Pole, Dickies, and many more that are “in” here, they are not in compared to Parade, Gucci and other places that their clothes cost over hundreds of dollars for a few jeans or accessories. So the point is don’t judge by peoples clothes because if you ever go to the big city (maybe like down in the lower forty-eight) karma will hit you and everyone around you will be wearing all these expensive labels and judging you the way you judged others.

There are people that actually judge by peoples’ personalities, Mathew Parkin one of those who don’t judge by close said, “Judging by personalities is important because you can’t know how they are by their clothes.”

There are people that judge, people that get judged and people that don’t care. People that get judged or think that they are getting judged have to really think about what to buy before buying and think about what they’re going to wear before they wear it that day. Some people plain out don’t even care. Those people dress for themselves and not anyone else. They pick their clothes out only if they’re comfortable, if they like it, close their eyes and pick or whatever they think they look good in.

Like someone said, “It doesn’t matter as long as I’m comfortable.”

People that dress for others are just plain and stupid and should quit trying to be something that they’re not and be themselves. If others make fun of you…well, forget them they’re just haters and always will be haters!

Junk Food
Written by Jennifer Parkin

Just about everybody likes junk food. It is fast and it tastes good. You don’t have to prepare it and there aren’t very many dishes to do afterwards, if there even are any dishes to do. And the thing about junk food is there are holidays where eating a lot of candy and junk food is a tradition such as Halloween, Valentine’s Day and Easter. Even though junk food tastes good, it’s not good for you.

You can get cavities, gain weight and you can get hyperactive. Being hyperactive isn’t all that bad though. Being hyperactive will even help you lose some of the calories you ate, but it won’t help you lose all the calories. Either way you will gain some weight. The students here don’t much care about the calories but, the fact that it tastes good makes them happy.

It makes Marvin so happy he said “I could live off it but he wouldn’t live very long”.

Three out of four students said they were addicted to junk food. None of the four students have stole money just to buy junk food. They just wait for their parents to come back from the store instead of taking the money and buying it themselves. Some of the students’ favorite kinds of junk food to eat are chocolate, candy, chips and zingers. Its not that the students don’t know that junk food isn’t good for them it just that they like it so much that they don’t care anymore. The bottom line is that junk food tastes good and that’s why people eat it.

Horoscopes
Aries March 21 - April 19
Adventurous day. Do you feel like having an adventure? Well today, you're more likely to have an adventure when you go on a short journey. No need to go very far, just someplace you've wanted to go before, yet never been. Today is also a good day to surprise a close friend with news or a small gift.

Taurus April 20 - May 20
Different strokes for different folks. Today, more people around you will differ in their beliefs from yours. Rather than clash with all of them, listen respectfully to their opinions. Then only if absolutely necessary, try explaining your position. Great day to expose yourself to other points of view.

Gemini May 21 - June 21
Shiny happy person. Today your individuality will really shine. So for the best day possible, try showing off the qualities that make you different and unique. That could involve wearing your favorite clothes, sharing your hobbies and collections, or even telling others your most unique desires.

Cancer June 22 - July 22
Take time for both. Today you'll have dual needs. On one hand, you'll want to take part in social activities. And at the same time, you'll need some time alone. Fortunately, you can and should do both! Today plan time with others, and also try to find someplace quiet where you can spend an hour alone

Leo July 23 - August 22
People power. To feel your best today, spend more time socializing with others. Attending a party would fit the bill perfectly! But, that's not the only solution. You can also go to any crowded public place where you can mingle with lots of people. Great day to go to a popular restaurant, movie theater or store.

Virgo August 23 - September 22
Out in front. Today your leadership skills are stronger than usual. So much so, that you should put yourself into situations where you can take a greater leadership role. You'll find you're especially effective when you get out in front and lead others by example. Great day to invite friends to join you.

Libra September 23 - October 22
Make up your mind! Today spending too long making decisions won't benefit you. In fact, it could cause you some unnecessary grief. That's because today you'll tend to overanalyze your options. The simple solution to this problem is to make decisions more quickly, especially on unimportant matters

Scorpio October 23 - November 21

Owl Fun Facts
ľ For centuries, people around the world believed hooting owls to be bad luck.
ľ Hunters stopped hunting if an owl on their left side hooted three times.
ľ Parents thought their babies would have trouble if an owl hooted when the baby was born.
ľ Some people believed hooting caused sickness, such as tonsillitis.
ľ Others thought hoots meant someone would die, and they tried to prevent the death by throwing salt into fire.

Dear Homer........
I got with my best friend!! I'm a boy that got with my girl best friend. I totally regret it. How do I tell her?

Signed,
I Like Her Only As My Best Friend!

Dear I Like Her Only As My Best Friend,
I think you should just really tell her how you feel. Who knows, maybe she feels the same way? Just use the typical phrase, "I think we're better off being friends.¨ I think when you get with your best friend, it just ruins the friendship. You should talk to her before it's too late. Maybe, if you're lucky, you guys will still be good friends!

Signed,
Homer

Dear Homer,
You know how some people in Angoon are bisexual, gay, or lesbian? Well, these people¡¦s actions are really¡K just *AUGH*. I mean to think they would know that just because you¡¦re flipping bi, gay, les, or whatever. DON¡¦T AUTOMATICALLY MEAN THEY LIKE YOU!! I mean just like straight people¡K just because you ONLY like girls, it doesn¡¦t mean you like all girls. The same with those who like guys too. I mean nobody has all the attractions to meet one¡¦s eye. DON¡¦T THEY GET IT? I¡¦m not sexually confused. I¡¦m just defending the situation! So everyone don¡¦t need to be talking their mess! If you haven¡¦t noticed, that¡¦s how rumors are started in this town.

Signed,
Defense (clap, clap)

Dear Defense,
You know what? I think you are so right! I agree with you 100%. Everyone is different and people just need to get that through their heads. If you're friends with those people then just help them through it and let them know that it doesn't matter what people tell you or say about you, as long as it makes you happy. Also, that is how rumors start, but if you hear something, it doesn't mean you can go around and tell everyone else. I'm not saying you are, but if you do, think about how much it would bug you if there were rumors going around. Just try and stop the rumors by not spreading them more.

Signed,
Homer

Dear Homer,
Why do people think they're better than you just because they moved? I mean, yeah, my family is having problems and just because her family's richer and "Perfect¨ don't giver her right to talk $*** right? Should I kick her @$$ or just let it go?

-I hate people who think they're better when they're really not!

Dear I hate people who think they're better when they're really not!,
They probably think there are better because you've seen this town right? Well, also because they're jealous because you have friends that you can hang out with that you've been with all your life and they have to start all over and make new ones and they're outcasts. Who cares that they're richer and "Perfect¨, people that usually say all these things out loud are really just hurting on the inside and their family is having a hard time also, but they're just one of those people that are working extra hard for others not to notice. So maybe it isn't a very good idea to kick her @$$ okay? Because she might be going through just as much of a hard time as you are.

Love always,
Homer

P.S. Just ignore those haters and get on with your life because after every wrong turn there's always a right.

We are what we eat
Written by Aaron Kearns

People need to eat, but what they eat may affect their life more than they know.
To eat a big greasy burger is a great thing, it is like a work of art but no one wants to turn into a greasy burger, except for maybe Kara who said, “I would be a burger,” after she was asked what type of food she would be.
The saying you are what you eat may have more truth to it than we want to admit. Studies show that eating too much of one thing is worse than eating a variety of foods because specific foods will not supply all of the vitamins and nutrients that other foods will. For example, oranges provide vitamin C but no vitamin B12 and cheese provides vitamin B12 and no vitamin C. There is no one single food that can provide all needed nutrients and vitamins, but you can get them all from a variety of foods.
There are many different kinds of healthy foods out there, grains, meat of every kind, “fruits and vegetables,” Konrad added. Many people have favorite foods, which are an excellent way to incorporate healthy foods into our diets. Some people don’t like to eat healthy foods, which is primarily because they don’t like them or because they don’t taste as good as jalapeno chips or any other type of junk food. Junk food is not always a bad thing, but definitely needs to be used sparingly or needs to be eaten as a treat, which is sort of an immature term but is very accurate when talking about something that is so important to your health. Healthy foods are in fact quite tasty. Often times the favorite foods people have are healthier than we think.
“Spaghetti with large noodles,” is John Jr’s favorite food, and in this food we can plainly see what is good about it. First, noodles are grain products, which are a good source of carbohydrates. Next there is a tomato-based sauce, which provides lots of vitamins and tastes really good. There is also the meat, which is a great source of protein and offers a necessary amount of saturated fat for you body to get energy.
There are plenty more favorites out there that are just as healthy and scrumptious so don’t have just one favorite food have lots, because you never know, if you keep eating those jalapeno chips you may just turn into one.

Boys Basketball Team
Written by Thomas Bell

The boys basketball team has been doing well on being eligible the whole season. They have also been doing well playing other teams out of town and in town. The season is just about over too. We just played our last home games and lost to the Juneau team by sixteen points the first night and six points the second night. We also had everyone eligible for the first time since our first home games. The players have been coming to school at seven o’clock to do some homework or work that needs to be turned in order to be eligible for regionals and for the quarter.
If you ask the whole team who is responsible for them being eligible they will say “I am responsible for being eligible.”
They also have been working as hard as they can to stay eligible and trying to turn their work in on time. Some of the student athletes that have been eligible barely make it to be eligible to play with the team. The coach likes it that they stayed eligible, but doesn’t want any failing classes from the team, the team will run Iowa’s for the F’s they have.
Some of the student athletes work harder during the season and not off the season because basketball motivates them to work harder. When those students that don’t work off the season will be ineligible for next semester and won’t be eligible for any other sports for the first semester next year.
Those student athletes that have barely made it to be eligible turn their work in late for the classes that they are failing and turn their work in on time for those classes that they are passing.
Like half of the boys’ basketball team is passing all their classes and the other half has one to three failing classes. They shouldn’t have anymore failing classes after this week because of going to school after practice to do work and making sure that they are passing the classes that they are failing.
Make sure if you see any of the basketball players between now and when they leave Tuesday night that you wish them good luck at regionals next week.

Horoscopes

Aries
Adventurous day. Do you feel like having an adventure? Well today, you're more likely to have an adventure when you go on a short journey. No need to go very far, just someplace you've wanted to go before, yet never been. Today is also a good day to surprise a close friend with news or a small gift.

Taurus
Different strokes for different folks. Today, more people around you will differ in their beliefs from yours. Rather than clash with all of them, listen respectfully to their opinions. Then only if absolutely necessary, try explaining your position. Great day to expose yourself to other points of view.

Gemini
Shiny happy person. Today your individuality will really shine. So for the best day possible, try showing off the qualities that make you different and unique. That could involve wearing your favorite clothes, sharing your hobbies and collections, or even telling others your most unique desires.

Cancer
Take time for both. Today you'll have dual needs. On one hand, you'll want to take part in social activities. And at the same time, you'll need some time alone. Fortunately, you can and should do both! Today plan time with others, and also try to find someplace quiet where you can spend an hour alone.

Leo
People power. To feel your best today, spend more time socializing with others. Attending a party would fit the bill perfectly! But, that's not the only solution. You can also go to any crowded public place where you can mingle with lots of people. Great day to go to a popular restaurant, movie theater or store.

Virgo
Out in front. Today your leadership skills are stronger than usual. So much so, that you should put yourself into situations where you can take a greater leadership role. You'll find you're especially effective when you get out in front and lead others by example. Great day to invite friends to join you.

Libra
Make up your mind! Today spending too long making decisions won't benefit you. In fact, it could cause you some unnecessary grief. That's because today you'll tend to overanalyze your options. The simple solution to this problem is to make decisions more quickly, especially on unimportant matters.

Scorpio
Can you avoid money? Today you may want to try! That's because today your judgment regarding the use of money is at below normal levels. Try putting off any major purchases or investments. You'll also want to avoid advising others how to spend their money. Tomorrow things will be back to normal.

Sagittarius

Birthdays

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!
today- Norman turned 18

Fun Facts

• If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days you could create enough heat to make a cup of coffee
• If you pass gas consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to make an atomic bomb
• You share your birthday with at least 9,000,000 (9 million) other people in the world
• In a year, the average person walk 4 miles making his/her bed

Did you know there are more than 300,000 fast food restaurants in the U.S.? Why is fast food so popular? Because it is convenient, predictable, and fast. Fast food has become a part of the busy American lifestyle. But, nutrition experts point out, fast food is often high in calories, sodium, fat and cholesterol. This does not mean fast food is bad. But it does mean you should fit fast food into a balanced, healthy diet.

Dear Homer........
Written with a pen
Sealed with a kiss
If you love me please answer
Me this is we lovers or is we not

You told me once but I forgot
So tell me now and tell me true
So I can say I am here for you
For all the people I have ever met you’re the one
I won’t forget and if I die before you do I’ll go to heaven
And I will wait for you I’ll give the angels back their wings
And risk the loss of everything just to have a lover
Like you is enough to prove that love is true

Long lost friend wish you’d still be my friend

Dear my friend,
Wow! You love me this much. No one has ever written me a love poem like this. I feel a tear coming on, oh gosh. But you do know I am taken, right!

Love always,
Homer

Dear Homer,
Why do teachers give so many detentions when they are having such a bad day and why do they take it out on us?
Love,
AL-FAL-FAH-N8TER AKA Tell me.

Dear AL-FAL-FAH-N8TER AKA Tell me,
Maybe the reason you’re getting detentions is because you are not doing your work or won’t follow the rules. That could also be the reason the teacher is having a bad day, which would mean that you deserve that detention you got.
Sincerely,
Homer

Dear Homer,
I have a friend who is pregnant and she dropped out of school and moved away from her parents and I tell her every day that she should go to school or move back because she calls me crying all the time. I don’t know what to do about it because she is living with her boyfriend.
Sincerely,
Confused friend

Dear Confused friend,
Maybe you should try to convince her to move back with her parents because they will help her and probably make her go back to school. The longer she waits to go back to school the harder it will be for her and if she doesn’t go back to school it will be hard on both her and her baby.
Sincerely,
Homer

Dear Homer,
I need a miracle! I have all F’s and an A and a C. I am praying so HARD and trying to get my head in the game, so I don’t fail and be in the same grade again. What ELSE can I do?!
Signed,
PRAY FOR ME!

Dear PRAY FOR ME,
Try coming to school early and staying as late as the teacher will let you. Then when you get home, do some more homework, get it all turned in as soon as you can. If you do that, you should be able to raise those grades. Just do nothing but work. It may be boring, but it’s better than repeating the same grade.
Sincerely,
Homer
