About Klukwan School
Klukwan School perches on a hilltop overlooking the Chilkat River north of Haines, Alaska. The Tlingit village of Klukwan is one of the oldest known settlement sites and is home to the Chilkat people.
The school serves children in grades pre-school through 12 in a multi-grade setting. Students enjoy an array of learning opportunities that include Tlingit language classes, instrumental music instruction, field-based science activities, as well as integrated academic programs.
Klukwan School works closely with community members to meet the school’s mission to support Tlingit language revitalization efforts. Due to the community’s strong reliance on traditional values and mores, students have an opportunity to work in an environment that reinforces respect for elders, respect for peers, and respect for themselves.
