About The School:
Tenakee Springs School sits atop a hill in the small town of Tenakee Springs. There are no cars here so most of us walk or ride our bikes to school. Arriving at the base of the school stairs you look up and begin your ascent of 114 steps. You may find yourself accompanied by students, teachers, parents, dogs, and often community folks adding a little extra workout to their daily walk. When you finally reach the top, and turn while catching your breath, Tenakee Inlet comes into view.
Tenakee Springs School serves kindergarten through twelfth grade students. Currently we have 13 students enrolled who are taught by the head teacher (who is also the principal and site administrator) and two part time aides. Many community members are a part of the learning environment contributing their time as tutors, activity leaders, special guests, and substitutes. Environmental, survival and marine safety groups enrich our curriculum throughout the year with classroom lessons followed by outdoor experiential activities. |
