I was born and raised in Michigan and didn't move to Alaska until 1983 when my wife and I brought our family of five children and a dog to the Last Frontier. I was hired by Chatham School District to teach in a logging camp at Eight Fathom Bight in September of 1983. We moved to Tenakee Springs in 1986, and we have enjoyed our time in this small community immensely since then. We have purchased a piece of property on the outskirts of the city and have been building our homestead there. We enjoy the slower-paced lifestyle and our ability to procure much of our food from our garden and the surrounding woods and waters.
