Middle School Social Studies Since we have multi-aged classes, a rotating curriculum is necessary in order to make sure that students do not learn the same thing over and over again. This year in middle school social studies we focused on our home State of Alaska. Some of the highlights of the year have included, comparing and contrasting the Harriman Expedition of 1899 and the Harriman Expedition Retraced of 2001. We also had the opportunity to track the activities of a local scientist in her studies in Antarctica and compare that area to Alaska. Last but not least, we were able to learn navigational skills that we applied during a field trip up Glacier Bay. We have been able to communicate and share our field trip data and observations with a school in Opotiki New Zealand who is going on a similar field trip of their area. Phew! What a year!
