Triops Facts:

Triops means: "3 Eyes"

Triops actually do have 3 eyes.

Triops are in the same family as crabs (the Crustacean family).

Triops live for only 20 to 90 days.

Triops can double in size in a single day when growing.

Triops' gills are in their feet.

Triops eggs go into a kind of suspended animation called "diapause" when dried out and can survive for more than 25 years that way before hatching.

Triops were around before the Tyrannosaurus rex ever walked the earth.

Triops Journal

Welcome to our Triops page.

The students in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade class at Angoon Elementary will be using this page to keep a journal of how our Triops do over the last 3 weeks of school. A journal entry and photo entry will be made every day (or as often as possible) about what the Triops are up to.

If you need to know more about what a Triop is check out the Information on the left. You might also want to check out some of the webpages about Triops since our own page only has a little information about these strange creatures from the time of the Dinosaurs.

Triops Journal

On May-3-04 we started the Triops. We had a clear bucket. We have a thermometer inside it. We had to make sure that it was between 75º and 80º. They like light, so we put a lamp over it.
They will hatch May-4-04.

Triops Journal

Today is Wednesday and a couple Triops have hatched. They are very small. They are white. They swim, eat and they have a lot of white sandy stuff that is on the bottom. The Triops have 3 eyes, gills in their feet, and live up to 20 to 90 days tops.

Triops Journal

Today is Wednesday. Today we fed the Triops. How you feed the Triopsis that you haveto crush the food,so the Triops can eat the food, because the Triops are small. Then when the Triops eat they do the back strooke. It looks cool. The Triops are clear. You can see their blood line. The water that the Triops live in has to be 75 or 85 or they will die. Triops are fun to have. But you can not hold them, or touch the water. Because the Triops make bacteria. You can not bump the jar that the Triops are in when the Triops are small because the Triops aren't that strong.
