We are beyond proud to share that Tatum Johnson, a standout 12th-grade student at Angoon High School, has been officially accepted into the 2025 National Native American Youth Initiative (NNAYI)! This incredible opportunity will take her to Washington, D.C. from June 21–29, 2025, where she’ll represent our community on a national stage.
Hosted by the Association of American Indian Physicians (AAIP), along with the Front Line Indigenous Partnership (FLIP) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, NNAYI is one of the most prestigious programs for Native youth interested in careers in health care and biomedical research.
Tatum will spend the week exploring college and medical school pathways, participating in hands-on workshops, learning from top Native professionals, and building connections that will last a lifetime. She’ll also dive into real-world issues affecting Native communities and discover how she can make a difference through a career in health and science.
This is a HUGE accomplishment—and a powerful step forward for both Tatum and the future of Native representation in medicine.
Way to go, Tatum! Your Angoon family is cheering you on every step of the way!
