Several white candles burning in dim light

With great sadness, we formally announce the unexpected passing of our Superintendent Bruce Houck on December 1st, 2021.  Bruce died peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his beloved dogs. The entire Chatham School District will mourn his loss.

Bruce was a larger-than-life figure who brought his remarkable experience, energy, and passion for education to our schools. He became a keystone to our district programs and plans for the future, and proved to be a supportive member of our team. Bruce has left this district in a better place than he found it.

Bruce’s sudden departure affects virtually every person connected to the district and will trigger strong emotional reactions of loss.  Nevertheless, the board must immediately address the operational challenges created by his passing. We are working diligently to ensure the district continues to move forward as Bruce envisioned. This process will take time, and we ask for patience and understanding.

We wish to thank every one of you for stepping up and helping with this enormously challenging time of transition.  It will undoubtedly take all of us working together to weather this storm.

On behalf of the Regional School Board, we extend our deepest sympathies to our entire Chatham district family.

Warmly,
Elizabeth Hooge
Chair, Chatham Regional School Board
