Spring is definitely in the air at Klukwan School! The willow buds are blooming, the sun is shining, and exciting things are growing in our hydroponics system. Ms. Vija, our preschool teacher, has been hard at work starting seeds and caring for our hydroponic gardens, and there's something NEW this year that we’re all thrilled about – our Beta Bucket Tomato system!
Right now, Ms. Vija is nurturing three main growing areas: the lettuce tower, the herb table, and the Beta Bucket tomatoes, all in full swing. What makes this even more special is the hands-on involvement of our students. Preschoolers have been helping out, while our upper elementary students are learning the ins and outs of hydroponics too!
This project is a wonderful learning opportunity for our entire school community. Students are not only gaining valuable math skills as they measure, track growth, and calculate yields, but they’re also learning about food sustainability and the importance of growing our own food.
