A year ago here in Tenakee Springs, we celebrated thanksgiving by watching (in the ocean in front of town) and listening (on the VHS radio) to two trained local residents help free a humpback whale that had a bouy stuck in its mouth. Read more about that story here: https://www.kcaw.org/2020/12/08/thanksgiving-rescue-a-blessing-for-entangled-whale-and-tenakee-responders/ We are thankful for this whale's freedom, and for all the impromptu educational experiences that homeschool provides. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving!

Tips for the New Homeschool Parent: Take a deep breath. As you begin your homeschool journey, start slow. Be patient with yourself and your student. Start with just language arts and math, and add other subjects as you gain confidence and find your rhythm. Kids love to be read to. Use conversation and the opportunities that come up naturally to explore topics. Practice skills, but don't rely too heavily on worksheets. Take a deep breathe, relax, and enjoy the learning and the time you get to spend with your child.
