Chalkboard with the word welcome

The Chatham School District Board of Education has announced that John Holst will serve as the Interim Superintendent for the remainder of the 2021-22 School Year.

Holst has been a resident of Sitka since 1993 when he became the Superintendent of the Sitka School District until he retired in 2001. Since that time, he has been an educational consultant to many districts in Alaska, mostly in the interior. He provides a wide range of services from Strategic Planning, Site Improvement Plans, Interim Superintendent and mentoring numerous Principals, and during the past seven-year, mentoring of new Superintendents.

During the 2020-21 school year, he returned to Sitka to once again provide Interim Superintendent services, during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic school year.

Holst has agreed to fill the role left vacant with the recent passing of Superintendent Bruce Houck.

Earlier in his career, Holst also worked in the Ketchikan School District and in Craig City Schools.
